The Peter L. Flaherty Library 2007 - 2008 Book Challenge has begun! This year students will be creating the Burns School Reading Dragon. All students will be able to add a scale to help the dragon grow throughout the school year. Scales will be earned by filling out a short book recommendation, which will be posted in the library for other students to read. For each recommendation submitted, students will write their name on a scale and add it to the body of the dragon. Our goal is to have the dragon circle the rotunda area in the library. A school wide competition to name the Dragon took
place on Tuesday, November 13th. By a large margin, Fluffy was the name chosen by students for our Library Dragon. Our year came to a close with students recommending close to 500 books. Although we fell short of our original goal to encircle the rotunda area, we know that many students did not fill out forms for all the books they read. We sure did have lots of fun watching the dragon grow each week, and know that students here at C. K. Burns School are very engaged in reading. We look forward to seeing our students this summer during our new open evenings and hope to meet many new in-coming students from Fairfield and Young Schools. Thank you to all the students who took the time to fill our recommendation forms. We look forward to fall, and the beginning of a new school year of reading fun in the Peter L. Flaherty Library.
